Sky Poker online series draws to a close

11 November 2011

LONDON, England -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- The very first UK Online Poker Series drew to a close at Sky Poker this weekend, with over GBP 200,000 in prize money having been won in just seven days. The guarantee prize pools were smashed during the week-long online poker festival which was held at skypoker.com.

With GBP 140,000 of prize money guaranteed and satellites in to the events from as little as GBP 1.20, the fields for each of the eight events exceed expectations, with a staggering total of GBP 218,170 won during the eight tournament series.

The star player of UKOPS turned out to be Sky Poker's very own pro, Julian Thew. Thew, who recently entered the record books as the first player to win three GUKPT titles, won the UKOPS Leaderboard after victory in Event 7 and a seventh-place finish in the Main Event on Sunday night.

Another great story came out of the UKOPS Main Event too, with SPT Grand Final champion James 'LJAMESL' Williams making it a terrestrial and online double after winning Sky's biggest online poker tournament. The GBP 15,714 first prize was the lion's share of the biggest prize pool ever generated on Sky Poker, with GBP 58,200 won in the Main Event alone.

Plans are already underway for UKOPS II, which will see some of the fantastic feedback given by the Sky Poker Community added to the format. "The first ever UKOPS was an amazing success and shows just how far Sky Poker has come in the last 12 months," said Sky Poker's Dave Bland. "To have an online series which was as well received as the Sky Poker Tour has been was really heart-warming for all of the people involved, both business and customer alike. We can't wait to take some of the suggestions that have been made and announce an even better UKOPS in the future."

Sky Poker would like to pass on their congratulations to all of the players who cashed in the UK Online Poker Series. Below is a list of the winners, as well as the final standings on the UKOPS Leaderboard which was won by Julian Thew.
