Sisters on the Fly trek stops at Cherokee Casino Will Rogers Downs

21 May 2015

(PRESS RELEASE) -- Sisters on the Fly, the largest women’s outdoors group in the country, arrived at Cherokee Casino - Will Rogers Downs this week as part of their cross-country trek down historic Route 66.

The tour kicked off on May 12 from Joliet, Illinois. The group of more than 300 members began the famous journey with hundreds more joining up at various stops in 11 cities. The journey will culminate in a celebration at their final stop in Ventura, California, on June 2, where the Sisters will converge at the Pacific coast.

Founded in 1999 by siblings Maurrie Sussman and Rebecca Clarke, Sisters on the Fly has grown to nearly 6,000 members across the country and internationally, who have connected through their shared affinity for the outdoors, fly fishing, camping and, most importantly, fun.

Since the start, many of the Sisters have famously renovated and decorated vintage trailers. The trailers are used to caravan to and from many of the group’s planned activities.

While not a requirement, the vintage trailer caravans have become one of the SOTF trademarks, and the Route 66 journey is no exception. More than 300 Sisters will tow and display their vintage trailers on portions of or the entire journey and will spend one to two nights in each city, taking in the sites and attractions of each while visiting with other Sisters and followers who stop by to say hello along the way.
