Single Ticket Wins $101 Million Mega Million Jackpot

UNITED STATES – (PRESS RELEASE) -- A single Mega Millions ticket matched all six numbers in the Friday, October 1, 2004 drawing, and now players are checking their tickets to see who won the estimated $101 million jackpot. The jackpot-winning ticket, which was purchased in Carrollton, Texas, matched the numbers 08-10-17-24-39 and the Mega Ball number 52.

But the holder of that winning ticket is not the only Mega Millions winner in Friday's drawing. A total of 758,680 tickets won prizes ranging from $2 all the way up to the jackpot. 19 tickets came within just one number of hitting the jackpot. They matched the first five numbers and only missed the Mega Ball number to each win $175,000. Those tickets were sold in New York (6), Texas (5), Illinois (4), Georgia (2) and New Jersey (2). There were also 63 tickets that matched four numbers plus the Mega Ball number to each win $5,000.

The jackpot for the Tuesday, October 5, 2004 Mega Millions drawing is $10 million.

Mega Millions is played in Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Texas, Virginia and Washington. Mega Millions drawings are held Tuesdays and Fridays at 11:00 PM Eastern Time, 10:00 PM Central Time and 8:00 PM Pacific Time.
