Singapore tries luring foreigners as casino opens

SINGAPORE -- There was a long line of foreigners for Resorts World Sentosa opening on Sunday, but fewer local Singaporeans were willing to pay the SG$100 a day entry fee, The Sioux-City Journal report.

The government is banking on the casino attracting tourists and broadening Singapore's tourism appeal as the country moves toward a more "service-based economy", the Sioux-City Journal noted.

The government hopes the casino will improve the economy and add 35,000 jobs, the report said.
