Singapore Official: Government Held Accountable for Casino Decision

SINGAPORE – As reported by the Channel News Asia: "Regardless of the intense lobbying and pressure by certain groups on the highly charged casino issue, Minister Vivian Balakrishnan said the Government would finally be held accountable by Singaporeans for whatever choice was made.

"The Acting Community Development, Youth and Sports Minister said: 'There will be painful, crunch time, divisive decisions that will need to be made. Now our current model is that when these painful crunch time decisions come up to be resolved, the Government has to consult, the Government has to make the decision, in the end needs to explain itself and be held accountable for the outcome because in lots of vocations, you can argue all you like but you don't know what the outcome will be but you still need someone to be responsible for it.'…"
