Singapore Casino Proposal Deadline Draws Surprise Bidders

SINGAPORE – As reported by the Singapore Business Times: " You wouldn't expect less, as it was D-Day - the deadline for the submission of concepts for Singapore's integrated resorts, which could include the country's first casino.

"…One of the submissions was different from the usual stacks of paper documents. According to some in the know, Keppel Land's staff (which has tied up with Harrah's Entertainment) were seen to have submitted what looked like two full-scale models of their plans to STB, in addition to documents.

"In all, between 15 and 20 players are said to have submitted concepts by yesterday. Among the names were some that had never been on the radar, but submitted plans for the two proposed sites of Sentosa and Marina Bayfront.

"One of them was South African gaming and resort company Sun International. The company said it would put in its bid with two Singapore partners.

"Observers were caught off-guard, saying that Sun International had not been visible at all.

"Another company that has kept a low-profile but announced its submission yesterday was US company Eighth Wonder.

"…Other surprises include Hong Kong's New Century Group, which had never indicated any interest…"
