Seven Strip Spots Get Conde Nast Kudos

Seven of the world's 500 best hotels are in Las Vegas, a survey published in January's edition of Travel + Leisure magazine reports.

The New York-based magazine used readers' suggestions to compile the ranking. Bellagio, Caesars Palace, Four Seasons Las Vegas, Mandalay Bay, The Mirage, Paris Las Vegas and The Venetian were the only Nevada properties included in the list.

Travel + Leisure ranked hotels in eight geographic regions based on factors such as room quality, location, service, restaurants/food, and value. Scores were indexed on a 100 point scale, with 100 qualifying as the best score.

Among the local hotels listed, Bellagio earned the highest point total at 90.52. The 3,005-room centerpiece of MGM Mirage's hotel empire was praised for its lake, gardens and stylish decor that create a "less frenetic" vibe than many Strip hotels, the magazine said.

The Bellagio's score ranked 43rd in the world, making it the only Las Vegas hotel to finish in Travel + Leisure's top 100. Its score was tenth-best among hotels in the United States and Canada.

Boyer Les Crayères in Reims, France, earned a 97.21 total to rank as the top-scoring hotel in the world, the survey said. With a 91.91 score, The Peninsula in Beverly Hills, Calif., ranked as best hotel in the United States (No. 21 in the world).

Like Bellagio, The Venetian's architecture and design made it one of only 20 "must see" hotels in the United States, the magazine said.

The Four Seasons Las Vegas was named one of a handful of "cool hotels" in the nation, while the nearby 3,644-room Mandalay Bay was the largest hotel included in the top 500.

Overall, Travel + Leisure praised the Las Vegas hotels for their affordability.

"The seven hotels making the cut this year in Las Vegas are some of the list's most affordable: they average $184 a night," the magazine said.

Bellagio, Caesars Palace, Mandalay Bay and The Mirage were each cited as a good value, typically offering rooms for less than $250 per night.
