Senators lukewarm on Saipan casino bill

25 August 2010

SAIPAN, Northern Mariana Islands -- The House of Representatives may have approved a casino bill yesterday, but some Saipan senators are already threatening to vote no, according to the Saipan Tribune.

There is concern among senators that establishing a casino industry on Saipan will harm the already established one on Tinian, the Saipan Tribune said.

The current casino bill up for vote permits 5 casino licenses that would be given out in first 5 years, with 25 per cent of revenue going to Tinian and Rota each and the other 50 per cent for Saipan, The Saipan Tribune explained.
