Senator: New York Hooked on Gambling

ALBANY, New York – As reported by the New York Post: "A staggering $35 billion will be spent this year on legal gambling in New York, wagered on everything from lottery games to video-slot machines and horse racing, a Queens senator reported yesterday.

"That figure does not include the estimated $8 billion being wagered a year at three Indian-run casinos that are operating within the state's borders, according to the study by Sen. Frank Padavan (R-Queens).

"…According to his study, nearly $5.8 billion will be wagered this year on lottery games such as Lotto, Quick Draw, scratch-off games and the wildly popular Mega Millions.

"…Padavan says the situation is only going to get worse if Gov. Pataki has his way…"
