Senator Backs Rockford Casino

SPRINGFIELD – As reported by the Rockford Register-Star: ``The state lawmaker spearheading expansion of gambling in Illinois backs a casino in Rockford, a move that could boost the Forest City's effort to host riverboat gambling.

``Sen. Denny Jacobs, D-East Moline, said Tuesday the gambling expansion legislation he intends to introduce would create new casino licenses for Rockford, Waukegan and a south suburb of Chicago.

``Jacobs repeated the notion promoted by Sen. Dave Syverson, R-Rockford, and other proponents of a casino in Rockford: that a Rockford casino would hedge Rockford-area communities against lost commerce and tax revenue to Beloit, Wis.

``…Obstacles remain between Rockford and a casino. The Jacobs-backed bill first must pass both chambers of the General Assembly and be signed by Gov. Rod Blagojevich, who refuses to say whether he would support more casinos in Illinois…"
