Seminole Casino Trades Bingo for Slots

TAMPA, Florida – As reported by the Tampa Tribune: "The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino will add 225 slot machines, replacing its high-stakes bingo parlor, which had helped put the tribe on the gaming map.

"The gambling facility closed the bingo hall on Feb. 20, sealing off the area where gamblers played games for payoffs as high as $125,000.

"Some patrons were angry that bingo is now gone.

"…Gary Bitner, a spokesman for the hotel, said the marketplace forced the change.

"…Bill Eadington, director of the Institute of Gambling and Gaming Regulation at the University of Nevada at Reno, said slot machines in monopoly gaming markets, such as Tampa, can bring in revenue of $500 per machine per day. Bingo, on the other hand, offers only a fraction of the casino's income, he said…"
