Security Company Owner Charged with Bribery

ONTARIO – As reported by the Detroit Free Press: "The owner of a Saginaw security company has been charged in federal court with paying a $100,000 bribe to a Casino Windsor official to obtain a $2.6-million security contract.

"U.S. and Canadian authorities also are trying to find out if Brian Joseph Berg, owner of the company, APS, then hired the official to use his influence to obtain four other casino contracts in Ontario.

"Investigators also were told that Berg paid $5,000 to an official at the Victories Casino in Petoskey to obtain information to underbid competitors there and that he paid a $60,000 bribe to an official at the New Jersey Transit Authority to obtain a security contract for the Secaucus Train Station.

"…The complaint charges Berg with wire fraud and conspiring to defraud Casino Windsor of its right to honest services of one or more of its employees. The charges carry a maximum penalty of 5 years in prison and a $250,000 fine…"
