Second Barstow Casino Vote Proposal Fails

BARSTOW, California – As reported by the Desert Dispatch: "A second proposal to let voters have a say in whether they want a casino didn't garner enough support from City Council members Monday night.

"Council members voted 3-2 against putting their own measure on the Nov. 8 ballot that would have asked voters whether they favor Indian gaming in the city of Barstow.

"The results would have been non-binding, serving only as advice to the Council, governor and secretary of the Interior.

"Also Monday night, Council members agreed to continue talks with the Chemehuevi Indian Tribe for a casino-related contract after they were unable to resolve outstanding issues at the meeting…"
