Schwarzenegger to Tax Casinos17 November 2003CALIFORNIA – As reported by the Associated Press: "Arnold Schwarzenegger, who will take the oath as California's 38th Governor on Monday, is planning to bring in a tax on casinos in a bid to beat the state's budget crisis. "Analysts say the state's budget deficit is likely to top $10 billion next year, despite an improving economy. "…In California, casino gaming among native American tribes has been a growth industry at a time when other segments of the state's economy have suffered. "…And while tribal officials are concerned about the new governor's plea that they should pay `their fair share', they are also banking that casino gaming will continue to be their economic miracle." |
