Schwarzenegger Considers Restoring Casino Funding

CALIFORNIA – As reported by the Desert Sun: "The Schwarzenegger administration is willing to consider restoring $20 million in tribal gambling money for Riverside, Tulare and other counties after vetoing the funding Monday, two Coachella Valley legislators said Wednesday.

"After meeting with administration officials, Sen. Jim Battin, R-La Quinta, and Assemblywoman Bonnie Garcia, R-Cathedral City, said they were optimistic there is a good chance the money can be restored this year.

"…The governor cut $50 million passed by the Legislature to $30 million, saying he couldn't approve the increase because counties hadn't filed required reports on how they're using the money to offset the impact of casinos.

"But Battin said he and Garcia have collected reports from 20 of the 21 counties that received the money and will give copies to the governor's office…"
