Scammers target Midwest casinos6 March 2007IOWA – As reported by the Delaware News Journal: "Casinos sprouting across the Midwest are attracting sophisticated cheaters from Las Vegas, Atlantic City and overseas who believe they can scam new, unseasoned staff, gaming officials say. "Cheating is often discovered only when casinos' books don't add up, making it difficult to nab culprits, says Joe Diaz of the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation. "…Joe Massa, general manager of Iowa's Riverside Casino & Golf Resort, knew scammers might target his casino, which opened in August. He hired experienced pit and security staff, he says, and hasn't detected any out-of-state cheaters. "Still, casinos in Iowa — where a half-dozen have opened since 2000 —— and other states allegedly have been hit by out-of-state cheats: "…Eric Bush of the Michigan Gaming Control Board says many casinos in the Midwest use security measures as sophisticated as those in Las Vegas and Atlantic City…" |
