Scam artist's claims investigated

31 May 2007

INDSOR, Ontario -- As reported by the Times Colonist: "Ontario will investigate the claims of an American man who says he cheated Casino Windsor out of thousands of dollars over a 10-year period, an Alcohol and Gaming Commission spokesman said on Wednesday.

"Richard Marcus, 50, claims he hit Casino Windsor about 15 times since the early 1990s. On 'a good Saturday night,' he says he'd illegally pocket between $50,000 and $60,000.

"...Marcus, who now speaks publicly about his con-artist years and consults for casinos and their surveillance teams, estimates he made $20 million US by cheating casinos around the world since the 1970s, before quitting the game a few years ago.

"...But AGCO spokesman Ab Campion said Wednesday the government agency will 'certainly investigate' Marcus' comments to see if there is any evidence of his scams.

"'If he admits to cheating, that's a violation of the Criminal Code,' Campion said. 'And if we find evidence, he will be charged.'

"...Casino Windsor spokeswoman Holly Ward said she couldn't comment on casino security and surveillance, but others were skeptical of Marcus's claims..."
