Savannah Casino Boat Getting Ready21 May 2004SAVANNAH, Georgia – As reported by the Savannah Morning News: "The berth behind the Hyatt Regency Savannah Hotel is no longer empty. The long awaited Millionaire's Casino boat has arrived in Savannah. "Jim Monaghan, the boat's managing partner, said the plan is to set sail in three weeks - once that section of the river is reopened following the G-8 Sea Island Summit. "Monaghan said efforts to bring the ship to the city have gone well, with good cooperation from the city administration. "…Anthony Schopp, president of the Savannah Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, was optimistic about the ship's future in Savannah. "…Since the 187-foot-long boat arrived in Savannah on Wednesday, the hiring of 200 to 250 staff members has already begun, and Monaghan hopes to open the top and first deck to visitors in the next 10 days. There will be no charge to dockside visitors who board the ship, which will be open from 8 a.m. to 2 a.m. "…Gambling on the 180 slot machines, blackjack, craps and roulette tables will only be allowed once the ship is 3 miles offshore, which will take around 80 minutes each way, Monaghan said…" |
