Saskatchewan casino construction to begin

REGINA, Saskatchewan – As reported by the Star Phoenix: "Saskatchewan could learn the name of its newest casino within the month.

"Construction of the casino and performing arts centre in Swift Current is also to start early this year, said Steve Shaheen, spokesperson for the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority (SIGA). The facility is expected to open in early 2008 and will be named by the many partners involved in the project.

"…While earlier estimates put the cost of the project at $23 million, Shaheen said costs are quickly escalating toward $30 million.

"…Experience gained during the construction of the Dakota Dunes Casino near Saskatoon will help with the Swift Current project. Partnerships were created with the Saskatoon Tribal Council and the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies to find available construction workers, including a number of First Nations employees…"
