Sask. First Nations should keep casino profits: chief31 August 2009SASKATCHEWAN, Canada -- As reported by the CBC: "The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations is taking a spin on a potentially contentious idea — it says it wants to keep all the profits from First Nations-run casinos. "The province currently receives 25 per cent of profits from casinos in Yorkton, North Battleford, Prince Albert, the Carlyle area and the Saskatoon area. "...Chief Lawrence Joseph says First Nations should have complete control over not only casino profits, but also the regulation of gambling on reserves. "Currently, the Saskatchewan government is responsible for such regulation and the 25-per-cent cut is part of a 25-year-agreement that expires in 2027..." |
