Saratoga Springs Mayor Named to Panel

NEW YORK – As reported by the Business Review: "Saratoga Springs' new mayor, Democrat Valerie Keehn, has been named by state Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver to a committee that is studying the future of thoroughbred racing in New York state.

"Silver also named two Democrats from his delegation in the Assembly, Racing and Wagering Committee Chairman Gary Pretlow of Westchester County and Consumer Protection Committee Chairwoman Audrey Pheffer of Queens.

"…The committee is studying how the thoroughbred industry should be reconstructed in New York state. The franchise held by the New York Racing Association to run the Aqueduct, Belmont and Saratoga race tracks runs out at the end of 2007, and NYRA says the current economics of the industry have driven it to the brink of bankruptcy…"
