Santa Barbara officials concerned about expansion28 February 2007CALIFORNIA – As reported by the Santa Maria Times: "Santa Barbara County supervisors will express their concerns to the governor about possible expansion of gambling at the Chumash Casino, but they balked Tuesday at pleas to oppose any gaming expansion statewide until community impacts are fully studied. "Supervisor Brooks Firestone got no second for his resolution to oppose state "ratification of any new or renegotiated tribal gaming compacts" until all affected communities adopt policies to deal with such expansions. Instead, the board voted. "…Both the failed resolution and the letter were drafted by Firestone in response to widespread concern that the tribe may seek to add thousands more slot machines at its casino on Highway 246, where 2,000 machines are currently allowed. Tribal leaders have said no negotiations are currently under way to amend its 1999 compact with the state, however…" |
