Sands Bethworks construction to begin soon

PENNSYLVANIA -- As reported by the Morning Call: "Sands BethWorks expects to begin building its $600 million casino complex as early as next week, casino President Robert DeSalvio said today.

"After months of tearing down former Bethlehem Steel buildings, countless hours of public debate and years of planning, Sands BethWorks will begin pouring the foundations for the casino next week, and remains on schedule to open its doors to gamblers in the spring of 2009, said DeSalvio, speaking to the South Side Task Force.

"And though the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board only allows casinos to open with 3,000 slot machines, Sands BethWorks officials are so certain that their casino will be among the busiest in the state, they will spend tens of million of dollars extra to build it large enough to turn on another 2,000 slot machines the moment the state approves it..."
