S.C. county votes to ban casino boats4 April 2007CONWAY, South Carolina – As reported by the Myrtle Beach Sun News: "For the first time, a majority of Horry County Council said Tuesday casino boat gambling should be banned from Little River and elsewhere in the county. "The council voted 7-5 to abandon taxing the floating casinos and instead pursue barring them from the area, which it is allowed to do under state law. "A final vote on the ban and a public hearing is scheduled for the council's May 1 meeting. "In a separate boat issue, the county said it faces losing its auditor if it enforces its new tax break for privately owned vessels. "…For now, the majority of council voted only to change course and pursue a ban instead of a fee on the casino boats. The council can vote on the actual ban only after it is advertised publicly and a public hearing is held, County Attorney John Weaver said…" |
