Russia's Casino Tax Hike Postponed

RUSSIA – As reported by the Vladivostok News: "Primorye's Duma lawmakers postponed considering the regional administration project that suggested a five-times hike in monthly payments for gambling tables, saying the project needs both consideration and calculation.

"Finance department for Primorye's administration developed a project suggesting a monthly tax for a gambling table should be increased from a minimum payment of 25, 000 ($ 862) up to the maximum of 125, 000 rubles. The project was submitted to the regional Duma's session in July but the deputies scratched it from the list.

"Primorye collects the largest income from gambling in the whole Russia's Far East region as gambling tables owners voluntarily pay minimum fees, the deputies said. The five-times increase in payment can provoke casino owners to conceal the real number of gambling tables in order to escape excessive taxes. As a result tax collections into the regional purse can sharply drop.

"…Gambling is rapidly developing in Primorye due the numerous Chinese who are regular visitors of Russian casinos…"
