Russian Parliament Backs Casino Ad Bill26 November 2004RUSSSIA – As reported by the Moscow News: "The State Duma has passed a draft law restricting the advertisement of casinos and gambling in the first of three readings in Russia's lower house of parliament. "If passed by the Federation Council and signed into law by the president, the bill would ban the advertising of casinos and gambling, as well as the numerous slot machine parlors rife across Moscow, between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. on television, the Rosbalt news agency reported. "Moreover, gambling and casino advertisements should not create the impression that such activities help a person attain a higher social status or personal success. Nor should it in anyway discredit people who choose not to visit casinos or gamble. "…Casinos, gambling parlors, and cheap slot machine joints have become such a prominent feature in Moscow — appearing near almost every subway station — that it prompted the MP's to launch the initiative…" |
