Rushmore's Caribbean Stud a fun ride

30 October 2008

Rushmore Casino's Caribbean Stud is a great example of how an online casino can improve on the brick-and-mortar gaming experience.

In land-based casinos, Caribbean Stud is an easy game to play, but a hard game to enjoy. Online, the frustrations found in land-based casinos are removed, leaving a thoroughly enjoyable game.

For the uninitiated, Caribbean Stud is one of the few versions of poker that's played against the "house" instead of fellow players. Rushmore's version of the game begins with a mandatory ante bet and an optional progressive jackpot bet. The dealer then deals out five cards face-up to the player, four cards face-down to the dealer and one card face-up to the dealer. After seeing the cards, the player has the option of folding – if they think they're going to lose the hand – or betting twice the ante because they think they're going to win the hand. If the player folds, the house collects the ante and the game is over. If the player bets, the dealer reveals the four face-down cards.

The dealer can not win a hand unless he holds at least an Ace-King or a pair. If the dealer fails to qualify, and the player stayed in the hand, the player's ante bet only is automatically paid off at even money. The second bet is returned to the player. If the dealer has a qualifying hand, and that hand beats the player, the dealer wins all the money. If the player beats a qualifying hand, he's paid out according to the following table:

Royal flush 100:1
Straight flush 50:1
4 of a kind 20:1
Full house 7:1
Flush 5:1
Straight 4:1
3 of a kind 3:1
Two pair 2:1
Pair 1:1
High card 1:1

Rushmore's game helpfully tells players what their hands are, so there's no chance of misreading cards. And the absence of other players makes the game significantly faster than its land-based counterpart – and that's a very good thing.

So if you're looking a fun (and fast) alternative to traditional poker, go ahead and give Rushmore Casino's Caribbean Stud a whirl. It's fun (and volatile) ride that's worth taking.
