Rugby Managers Restrict Gambling23 June 2005AUSTRALIA – As reported by the Australia Daily Telegraph: "Rugby league managers yesterday admitted they have been forced to restrict players' wages to prevent them from heavy gambling. "The managers also claimed that if they were doing their job, players would not have excessive money to punt. "…The comments came after former league player Craig Field told The Daily Telegraph he would bet $1000 on a dog race without even knowing the greyhound's name. "…'If managers are doing their job correctly, (rugby league) players would have investments and other financial commitments which require regular monitoring and would prevent the player from wasting money,' said manager Steve Gillis. "…Manager Wayne Beavis said players with gambling problems must be monitored…" |
