Rosemont Mayor Responds to Court Decision

10 June 2005

ROSEMONT, Illinois – (PRESS RELEASE) -- I am very pleased with this significant decision by Cook County Judge Hall that the Illinois Gaming Board erred in its decision to prevent the 10th casino license to be located in Rosemont. This order to renew Emerald's license and locate it in Rosemont should put to rest any question about where the home dock for the license should be. This ruling affirms legislative intent and our belief that the word "shall" does indeed mean "shall."

Rosemont was selected as the venue for the 10th casino license and today's ruling clearly upholds that selection. We would hope that the Illinois Gaming Board would move swiftly to comply with Judge Hall's order.

I have always believed Rosemont is the best location for this license. In fact, four of the five previous Gaming Board members went as far as to praise our village as a prime location. In giving away virtually all of the local tax revenue to needy Cook County suburbs, we more than comply with the intent and the spirit of the gaming act.

With more than a million visitors from other states and other countries and the 9th largest convention and exposition center in America, we are in the position to fulfill the hope of then Governor Thompson and the Illinois General Assembly that hundreds of millions of dollars in out-of-state revenues would flow to state coffers.

I hope that the Gaming Board will do its duty to screen investors in this and any casino project to guarantee the integrity of gaming in Illinois. I believe if they do that and if they examine Rosemont using fair criteria and not hearsay, innuendo or failed attempts to find wrongdoing they will do the right thing and locate the 10th casino license in Rosemont.
