Rosemont Ditches Casino Idea10 May 2006ILLINOIS – As reported by the Chicago Tribune: "Putting aside hopes of hosting a casino to lure Chicagoans, tourists and conventioneers, Rosemont has decided to take a more family friendly route, unveiling plans Tuesday for a $500 million entertainment, shopping and recreation complex. "Anchored by a 100,000-square-foot water park, a 22-screen movie theater complex and a luxury hotel, the goal for Rosemont Walk is to create a downtown atmosphere strongly defined by pedestrian traffic. "…The 60-acre site includes the steel skeleton of a building that officials once hoped would house the controversial Emerald Casino. "…The Illinois Gaming Board took the casino license away from the bankrupt Emerald in December, but the decision is under appeal. With or without the casino, Rosemont Walk can go forward, officials said…" |
