Rosemont Casino Hearing Targets Mayor's Campaign Funds9 June 2005ILLINOIS –As reported by the Chicago Tribune: "Relatives and a company tied to Nick Boscarino, who was sentenced last month for defrauding the suburb of Rosemont, have donated more than $55,200 to campaign funds connected to Rosemont Mayor Donald Stephens since late 2001 when Stephens announced he was severing all ties to Boscarino, his former friend and business associate. "The campaign contributions were revealed when the Illinois Gaming Board's attorneys presented state records while questioning Boscarino at a hearing held by gambling regulators trying to strip a riverboat license from investors in Emerald Casino, which was once headed for Rosemont. "…Emerald attorney Robert Clifford objected to the line of questioning focusing on Rosemont and not the casino itself, but retired appellate court judge Abner Mikva, who is overseeing the case, overruled the objection. "Investigators believe the inquiries about Rosemont are relevant because Boscarino has close ties to the village where the casino was supposed to be built, and they believe he is an investor in the Emerald project via a legal trust through his wife…" |
