Ronnie Cox Band coming to Blue Chip Casino11 March 2016(PRESS RELEASE) -- Purdue University Northwest and the Department of English and Modern Languages and Blue Chip Casino, Hotel & Spa present the Ronny Cox Band in concert on Friday, April 22 at 8 p.m. in the Stardust Event Center at Blue Chip Casino. Tickets go on sale Thursday, March 17 at 10 a.m. and are available for $20 at Ticketmaster.com and at the Blue Chip Gift Box in the Blue Chip Casino pavilion. Guests must be 21 or older, with a valid state or government-issued photo ID. Under the leadership of superbly talented character actor, singer/songwriter and storyteller Ronny Cox, the show features an eclectic mix of songs and stories. Of his show, Scott Alarik of the Boston Globe says, “He is a study in easygoing amiability and unforced charisma. He charms crowds with self-teasing humor, tart progressive insight, and a lulling Southwestern folk sound.” Cox, one of Hollywood’s most versatile character actors, appeared for the first time in front of a camera playing the guitar in the dueling banjos scene in Deliverance, one of the most iconic scenes in the history of moviemaking. Since then, in his 40 years in Hollywood, he has appeared in more than 125 movies and TV shows, including Beverly Hills Cop, Total Recall, Taps, The Onion Field and Bound for Glory. In 2012, Cox became an author with the release of “Dueling Banjos: The Deliverance of Drew,” a collection of stories about the movies and his own springboard into Hollywood that coincided with the 40th anniversary of the release of the film Deliverance. His first love is music, however, and he plays at more than 100 shows at festivals and theaters every year. Cox has released eight CDs, including “Ronny Cox Live in Concert - The Official Bootleg,” out in 2014.
