Rohnert Park Casino Won't Face Ballot

CALIFORNIA – As reported by the San Francisco Chronicle: "A $200 million agreement between the city of Rohnert Park and an Indian tribe to build a casino and hotel near the city can proceed without voter approval, a state appeals court ruled Thursday.

"Opponents of the plan sought to put a referendum on the local ballot after the City Council reached an agreement in October 2003 with the Federated Indians of the Graton Rancheria.

"ut the Court of Appeal in San Francisco agreed with Sonoma County Superior Court Judge Lawrence Sawyer, who ruled in May 2004 that the agreement was not subject to a referendum…"
