Riverwind Casino supports Day of Caring21 September 2016(PRESS RELEASE) -- Riverwind Casino employees showed their community spirit recently by rolling up their sleeves for a day of cleaning, painting and yard work. This is the sixth year Riverwind employees have volunteered their time to take part in the United Way of Norman's Day of Caring. The annual event was held on Friday, 16 September. The United Way of Norman assigns area businesses and organizations to various social service agencies in the city. The volunteers participate in activities from playing dominoes with seniors to painting and yard work. More than a dozen Riverwind volunteers spent the day beautifying the headquarters of Norman Addiction Information and Counseling. Jack Parkinson, Riverwind's general manager, said his staff scrubbed bathrooms clean, pulled weeds from the flower garden in front of the NAIC building and added fresh paint to several offices. "Each year Riverwind employees look forward to this day," Parkinson said. "They take on the projects the staff at nonprofit agencies are unable to tackle due to limited time and resources." Riverwind employees joined more than 600 volunteers in this year's activities. The volunteers represent 40 Norman-based businesses. In all, Day of Caring volunteers were assigned to 46 social service locations. "The business community in Norman has shown amazing support for the Day of Caring," said Renee O'Leary, United Way of Norman's director of community impact. "This was our biggest turnout yet. We had more than 600 people volunteer to make the day a success." |
