Rivers Casino Schenectady donates $21K to local nonprofits and groups7 February 2017(PRESS RELEASE) -- Rivers Casino & Resort Schenectady announced today the donation of $21,000 to a number of local charities and public service organizations on the eve of its Grand Opening. Rivers Casino held a special Appreciation Night celebration on Monday, 6 February, to thank the many partners that helped bring the $330 million casino from vision to reality. The event featured low limit gaming and the proceeds of that event, supplemented by a donation from Rivers operator Rush Street Gaming, constitute the charitable donation. Three organizations will each receive a $7,000 donation:
The SEAT Center provides residential and commercial fee-for-service work that delivers community impact at a competitive price. The organization offers a growing branch of social enterprise services that support the academic and workforce development of young adults. Each home or building that it services puts The SEAT Center one step closer to creating a livable wage job for a young person, helping combat poverty, increasing employability and transforming a young person’s meaning of community and self. The Veterans Miracle Center's mission is to offer veterans and active-duty military personnel real solutions that will enhance their lives. The organization seeks to provide clothing, personal care and hygiene products, houseware items, ambulatory equipment, toys for their children and much more – as well as specialists available in counseling for personal needs, jobs, housing or financing. All goods and services are available free-of-charge to veterans and their immediate household. The doors of Rivers Casino & Resort will open tomorrow, 8 February, at noon after a ceremony to include remarks from state and local dignitaries, and Rush Street Gaming executives. Rivers' Grand Opening comes just barely one year after Rush Street Gaming held a celebratory groundbreaking at the site, which sits on the banks of the historic Mohawk River. Rivers Casino & Resort Schenectady features a 50,000-square-foot gaming floor with 1,150 slots, 67 gaming tables and a 15 table poker room. Rivers is the first gaming destination in the region to feature table gaming. Additionally, Rivers features Dukes Chophouse, a marketplace with four restaurants (including favorite concepts from other Rush Street properties), the Van Slyck's Entertainments Lounge, a 10,000-square-foot Event Center, Splash Spa (opening later in February) and a 165-room hotel (opening this summer). Rivers Casino & Resort will be located adjacent to a new mixed-use Mohawk Harbor development currently under construction by the Galesi Group, which constitutes an additional $150 million investment in the 60-acre riverfront property. The mix of residential, retail and commercial space will include a 124-room Courtyard by Marriott and a 50-slip harbor on the Mohawk River and Erie Canal.
