Rivers Casino Pittsburgh contributes toward construction expense of PPG Paints Arena

1 April 2024

(PRESS RELEASE) -- Rivers Casino Pittsburgh paid $3.3 million today toward the construction expense of PPG Paints Arena. The Sports & Exhibition Authority of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County and the casino jointly announced that $112.5 million has now been funded to date.

Rivers Casino contributes $7.5 million annually to the SEA, with installments occurring in October and April each year. The next installment will be paid on 1 October 2024.

By 2038, Rivers Casino will have contributed a total of $225 million per agreement with the SEA for the arena’s construction, which was completed in 2010. Rivers Casino opened in August of 2009.

“As we approach our fifteenth anniversary this summer, Rivers Casino continues to fulfill our promise to be a strong economic engine, a great place to work and a proud community partner,” said Bud Green, general manager at Rivers Casino Pittsburgh. “We’re honored to collaborate with the SEA in supporting the home ice of the Pittsburgh Penguins.”

Rivers Casino generates approximately $160 million annually for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Allegheny County and Pittsburgh, including the city’s economic development and tourism fund.

“Rivers Casino Pittsburgh’s support of PPG Paints Arena has had a tremendous positive impact on the citizens of Allegheny County,” said Aaron Waller, executive director of the Sports & Exhibition Authority. “The SEA is proud of this partnership and thanks Rivers for its ongoing commitment.”
