Rivers Casino Philadelphia to host Jonathan Butler and Gerald Albright

5 April 2022

(PRESS RELEASE) -- Singer-songwriter and guitarist Jonathan Butler and jazz saxophonist Gerald Albright will perform in a double bill at Rivers Casino Philadelphia on Saturday, 20 August, at 8 p.m. This Grammy-nominated duo will entertain guests with their diverse sounds, including contemporary R&B, jazz and gospel. Tickets start at $29.

Butler is known for his playfulness and quiet resilience that is easily visible in his passionate performances, and Albright’s musical muse has taken him to many fascinating locales along the contemporary R&B and urban jazz spectrum. These two acts have recently come together to tour the nation, bringing their soulful sounds to audiences everywhere.

Butler was the first non-white artist to be played on South African radio and appear on national television. His continued commitment to his craft came to fruition with his self-titled debut album, which received a Grammy nomination for the pop hit "Lies." His song "Going Home" earned him another Grammy nomination, and the mid-tempo ballad "Sarah, Sarah" confirmed Butler’s place in popular music.

After graduating college, Albright joined jazz pianist and R&B singer Patrice Rushen, replacing her band’s former bassist and finishing its tour on bass guitar. Playing both sax and bass, Albright became the consummate session and touring musician in the ’80s. He worked alongside many music icons like Anita Baker, The Temptations, Maurice White, Les McCann, Teena Marie, Phil Collins, the Winans and Whitney Houston. Albright became a chart-topper, with countless radio hits and two Grammy-nominated solo albums.
