Rivers Casino hosts local information sessions

(PRESS RELEASE) -- Rivers Casino and Resort - Schenectady today announced it will hold a series of local informational sessions across the Greater Capital Region to speak with local businesses and individuals interested in working with the casino as vendors. These events promise to serve as a valuable resource for local business owners as the casino prepares for an expected early 2017 opening.

The sessions kick off on Aug. 4 at the Trinity Alliance's Capital South Campus Center in Albany from 5 – 7 p.m., and will continue across the region into the fall.

Each session will be approximately 90 to 120 minutes in length, and will consist of a presentation and a question and answer session. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet members of the casino team. Pre-registration is not required.

"Rivers Casino & Resort is committed to forming relationships with members of the local business community," said Mary Cheeks, General Manager of Rivers Casino & Resort Schenectady. "These informational sessions offer a great opportunity to converse with potential vendors, and we want to make sure that anyone interested in working with the casino knows what to expect. This is one of the many ways Rivers will branch out into the community and provide even more economic opportunity for the region."

Present scheduled dates and locations of future sessions are:

Albany - Capital South Campus Center, Aug. 4, 5 – 7 p.m.
Rensselaer - Rensselaer Public Library, Aug. 9, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Colonie – Colonie Community Center, Aug. 16, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Amsterdam – Perthshire Banquet Facility, Aug. 25, 5 – 7 p.m.
South Glens Falls – Location TBD, Week of Aug. 29
Troy – Location TBD, Week of Sept. 5
Hudson – Hudson Area Library, Sept. 13, Time TBD
Clifton Park – Location TBD, Week of Sept. 19
Albany – Albany Public Library – Washington Avenue, Sept. 26, 5 – 7 p.m.
Schenectady – Schenectady County Community College, Week of Oct. 3

The presentations given at these sessions will include information on working in the gaming industry, including outlining New York State requirements for casino vendors to be licensed through the Gaming Commission.

Rivers Casino & Resort is a $330 million project that will have a 50,000-square-foot gaming floor with 1,150 slot machines, 63 gaming tables and 16 poker tables. It will be attached to a 163-room hotel and a 10,000-square-foot banquet facility capable of hosting up to 600 people for conventions and special events, one of the largest spaces in the region. Additionally, the property will have a steakhouse, a marketplace with light fare eateries, entertainment lounge and day spa. The casino will take full advantage of its riverfront position with outdoor patios and pre-function spaces. It is expected to open in the first quarter of 2017.
