Rhode Island Town to Vote on Racino

LINCOLN, Rhode Island – As reported by the Providence Journal: "Provided the General Assembly gives its blessing, the town's voters will get to decide in November whether to authorize making Lincoln Park a full-fledged casino.

"In a 3-to-1 vote, after an hour of debate, the Town Council last night approved asking legislature permission to place the question on the ballot. But if the question does go to voters, and if voters say yes, it's unclear what that vote will mean.

"…BLB Investors LLC has agreed to buy Lincoln Park's parent company, Wembley plc, subject to approval by Wembley shareholders.

"Councilman Richard K. Foster, the resolution's sponsor, said any casino proposal would need to pass through several other levels of regulatory control, at both the state and town level, before becoming reality…"
