Rhode Island Town Council Meets with Developers

JOHNSTON, Rhode Island – As reported by the Providence Journal: "The Town Council will meet tonight to entertain a preliminary agreement with Donald Trump and the other developers who are seeking to build a 120,000-square-foot casino in town.

"Under the proposed pact, the town would be required to negotiate exclusively with Trump's development company -- and no other competing casino firm -- over the course of a period that would end on June 30.

"During this time, the development company, identified as Ocean State Gaming Ventures, would reimburse the town for any legal expenses it incurs. Ocean State Gaming Ventures is a subsidiary of Trump Entertainment Resorts Holdings and Ajax Gaming Ventures.

"The casino developers have proposed a facility with 5,000 slot machines, 200 gambling tables and more than 500 hotel rooms at Route 295 and Hartford Avenue.

"Such a venture would require the legalization of casino gambling by the General Assembly and a project that would comply with the town's development rules.

"Developers and town officials regard this latest agreement as an early step in that process…"
