RFL to demand explanation from Sean Long over betting allegations

ENGLAND -- As reported by The Guardian: "Sean Long will be asked to explain his latest allegations that illegal betting remains widespread in rugby league by the game's governing body, and has been warned that a failure to co-operate could lead to a repeat of the suspension he suffered five years ago for gambling against his own St Helens team.

"In an exclusive interview in today's Guardian, the former Great Britain scrum-half expands on the allegations, made in his autobiography, that other players at both Saints and Bradford made money out of the 2004 fixture after which he and Martin Gleeson were found guilty of breaching the existing by-laws that prevent players from betting on matches.

"Bradford dismissed those claims when they first appeared in a less specific form last week, but it is Long's confidence that Super League players continue to bet on the game that will most interest the Rugby Football League – and could land him in the most trouble..."
