Revel casino plans include power plant21 November 2007NEW JERSEY -- As reported by the Press of Atlantic City: "The casino going up in the resort's South Inlet will be powered by a natural gas power plant that will be nestled between about a dozen homes, officials say. "It would be similar to other plants adjacent to The Walk shopping district and at the intersection of Absecon Boulevard and New York Avenue, builders said. "However, the plant would also be 'the greenest thing that's going to be done in this town,' said architect Thomas Sykes, whose firm SOSH Architects is designing the building. It will recycle the steam generated in the plant for further energy. "Revel Entertainment has announced plans to build a $2 billion megacasino in the resort's South Inlet. In the process of developing the casino, it is also expected to replace much of the aged and outdated utility infrastructure that has sat unused since the Atlantic City Housing Authority cleared out much of the neighborhood in an ill-fated redevelopment attempt in the late 1960s. "Revel CEO Kevin DeSanctis said the company hopes to get its approvals by the first quarter of next year. Sykes said the plant needs to be in operation in 15 months so it can provide energy during the construction phase. "...The city is considering adding the block for the proposed plant to the casino's redevelopment zone. The redevelopment designation means that the casino will likely not have to seek special zoning permission to site a power plant in an otherwise residentially zoned neighborhood..." copyrighted material written for and appeared exclusively in The Press of Atlantic City |
