Researcher: Gambling Could Be Lucrative for Britain

UK – As reported by the BBC News: "Gambling could become one of the most lucrative industries in the British economy, researchers have claimed.

"By relaxing regulations surrounding betting and gaming and by abolishing tax on punters, the government has ensured an economic boost, they said.

"That could eventually see more money generated by the gambling sector than any other, said the Betting Research Unit at Nottingham Trent University.

"…Professor Leighton Vaughan Williams, director of the unit, said: 'Our research suggests that recent policies designed to deregulate the gambling industry are likely to realise significant gains for the wider economy in terms of economic productivity.

"'From this perspective at the very least, the new phase of casino developments soon to be introduced into the UK can only be good news for the economy.'…"
