Report says Ontario gambling modernization plan overly rosy

28 April 2014

ONTARIO -- A modernization plan by the Ontario government for the gambling industry was not realistic enough a report by the provincial Auditor-General suggests, according to the Globe and Mail.

The plan did not allow for enough consultation with the industry, the report said.

The OLG plan presumed that large cities would embrace casinos, whereas the opposite has proved the case, the Globe and Mail report said.

The horse racing industry is still reeling from some of the modernization plan's implications, such as the cancellation of slot machine revenues, the report noted.
