Report by Help Proposed Michigan Casino

BATTLE CREEK, Michigan – As reported by the Battle Creek Enquirer: "An environmental impact statement set for public release Friday will detail the anticipated impacts of the proposed FireKeepers Casino in Emmett Township, and the results may favor the casino.

"The in-depth study is the latest development in a battle over the proposed Indian-run casino that dates back to 1998 and is intended to measure potential effects on the physical environment, such as air, water and noise pollution, as well as effects on employment, living standards, local services and aesthetics.

"…Herb Nelson, the BIA environmental scientist directing the study, said the document was put together to evaluate concerns and impacts of the existing casino plans, as well as other alternatives.

"Nelson said the statement likely will have favorable results for the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of Potawatomi in Battle Creek, the tribe vying for the casino…"
