Reno, Washoe Officials Could Place Temporary Ban On Gaming Licenses25 October 2004RENO, Nevada – As reported by the Reno Gazette-Journal: "Following Sparks' lead, Reno and Washoe County officials on Friday decided to implement six-month moratoriums on hearing applications for unrestricted gaming licenses as their staffs work to develop a regional approach to gambling and neighborhood casinos. "The moratoriums result from public unrest over a series of proposed neighborhood casinos, including one along Pyramid Highway in Sparks that's directly across the street from homes and just up the road from a park. "Residents are concerned about noise, traffic and a potential for increases in crime. "…In April, the Sparks City Council instituted a 10-month moratorium on new casinos outside their downtown core. The Reno council and Washoe County commission asked their staffs to draft similar ordinances, which they'll have to formally approve at later meetings…" |
