Referendum on Martha's Vineyard tribal casino fails17 August 2015MARTHA'S VINEYARD, Massachusetts -- Opponents failed to muster up needed support for a referendum to prevent a casino opening on Martha's Vineyard, the Boston Globe reported. The Aquinnah Wampanoag Indian tribe conducted the referendum amongst tribal members, some of whom oppose the plan, the report said. The vote was split and opponents failed to reach the majority required, the Boston Globe said. The casino has also faced strong opposition from local private landowners, the report noted. |
