Red Alert on Casino Crime

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania -- As reported by News 24: "Tanzania has appealed to African countries to regulate the gaming industry, beset by a rise in financial crime.

"The gaming industry, which includes lottery and casinos, are fast-growing economic activities in Africa, with heavy investment and new technologies,' Tanzanian Finance Minister Basil Mramba told the opening session of a two-day Conference of Gaming Regulators Africa Forum (Graf) in Dar es Salaam on Sunday.

"He said the industry was infiltrated by criminals who use casinos to launder ill-gotten cash, a factor that calls for enhanced control and regulation.

"...Graf chairperson Khuze Kapeta of Malawi urged the regulators to work out an easily understood and fair legal regime to protect investors and their investments..."
