Random Tax Checks on Thai Lottery Operators

THAILAND – As reported by the Bangkok Post: "Random tax checks of people on a list of 600 underground lottery operators start next week.

"If the Revenue Department finds they are still in the illegal business, they will be subject to a retroactive tax payment check, says Chornun Petpaisit, adviser to the department.

"…People found to have avoided tax would be fined twice the amount of unpaid tax plus 1.5% interest.

"…Mr Chornun said the department would also summon underground lottery operators from five groups for tax checks in the middle of next month.

"He declined to identify them, saying only that each group comprised at least five operators and their assets were worth 50 million baht (US$1.25 million)…"
