Racetracks Leading Off Slots Hearings

HARRISBURG, Pennsylvania -- As reported by the Post-Gazette: "Applicants for casino licenses will appear at a series of hearings before the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board from September through November.

"The lead off hearing, set for 9 a.m. Sept. 11 at the state Capitol, will focus on a bid for a slots license at The Meadows harness track in Washington County,

"Sale of the 43-year-old racetrack was completed last week from Magna Entertainment Corp. of Toronto to Millennium Gaming, which owns three casinos in Las Vegas.

"...At each hearing, the Gaming Control Board will question track officials about their financial history and operational experience; their character; their commitment to hiring minorities and women; the impact of their proposed slots operations on surrounding communities; their plans to help compulsive gamblers; and other aspects of the proposed casinos.

"Gaming Board Chairman Tad Decker has said that he expects the board to issue the six racetrack slots licenses at a meeting on Sept. 27..."
